Evening without helmet...

...Saturday..start of my happy weekend. As usual went to meet my friends in evening on my bike. On my way back home...i saw couple of Police Vans with their lights on. I was stopped by one of the havaldar and he asked me for my vehicle license. On inquiring, he replied it was a police drive to catch all two wheelers without helmet.

…shit!!!...That was the first thing came into my mind. Never before there were police on that road and now today all of the sudden.

Anyways after handing him my license he asked me to stand in the Queue beside one of the police van and pay Rs. 110/- as fine.

When I came beside that police van, what I saw was a very similar scene of rationing shop Queue. There were many people trying to get inside that small police van door.

Inside were three havaldar middle aged, quite, calm doing their work.

Well I had to get my license, so now I was one of those many people outside that van trying to make my way in.

After couple of minutes two havaldar came and tried to convince people to stand in a single queue, but there efforts were useless. Everyone was trying to get their license first and get out of that scene as soon as possible. But some how a single line was made and things were a bit silence.

Then some one from behind said, “Aaj thou inka kamai kaa din ahai, bahut bakre milee hai.”

Other person added, “Inka monthly target hotta ahai, mahine bhaar araam karro aur fir ek din aisaa raid maro…”

Then one more came “Are kaam nahi hoga inkoo koi…islye timepass kaar rahe ahai…”

And all of them standing in queue were driving without helmet, no body bothered to release that they had broken law. Instead they started verbally insulting the men on duty.

There were many such insulting comments.

Why…what went wrong. Who was wrong in the first place…??

Police were doing nothing wrong, they were doing their job.

Why can’t we just co-operate with the system. We are the core of the system.

Only because we have to go home early or watch some stupid serial or meet some one.

Think of those men inside that van who were continuously working in that atmosphere of hate and disrespect.

Those men in that van had to hear all those hatred comments for just doing their job.

It was Saturday…everybody standing in the queue were either on holiday…spending quality time with families or were enjoying weekends with friends.

But those men in uniform were on duty…doing their job. That to for the safety of the common public. They could also have easily slipped out and took a half day. Even men in uniform are common people like us, they do have family waiting for them.

Every person in the Queue was given receipt for the fine he paid.

Agreed processing or issuing receipt was taking a long time…I myself stood there for over one hour. But those men on duty were doing there best, utilizing the available resources to its full. There was single register and receipt book, and a two havaldar doing the entries continuously….non-stop for more that two hours or soo and even after I left from there…there was a long queue.

Reaching home I thought there are also many good thing happening…

but because of some few people the entire force is blamed.

Hemant Karkare, Maharashta Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad chief, was among the 11 police officials who were killed while fighting terrorists in Mumbai on Thursday.
Karkare, 54, was killed in a shootout with terrorists at the Taj Intercontinental Hotel where terrorists have taken at least 15 people hostage.
Additional commissioner Ashok Kamte and ‘encounter specialist’ Vijay Saluskar were killed in a shootout with terrorists at Metro Cinema.
Karkare, a 1982 batch IPS officer, had returned to his state cadre after a seven-year tenure with the Research and Analysis Wing, Indian external intelligence agency, in Austria. His death is likely to affect the probe into the Malegaon blast.

CST STATION: COP TOOK SHOT FOR ME

I got a call from Taj Mahal Hotel informing me of the firing there. While leaving the Mirror office, on a bike, Satish Malavade and I heard blasts inside CST. We parked our bikes there and on stepping inside saw two men firing. After clicking their pictures, Satish and I tried stepping out of the station. That’s when the terrorists followed us. Meanwhile, the cops were busy asking people to leave the station immediately. Had they not done that the toll would have been much more. The terrorists followed us and the cops outside. The GRP started taking their positions outside CST and we too took our positions. I found myself standing next to a man in civilian clothes. On being asked he told me he was with the GRP. He asked me to sit down saying, “The terrorists are coming this way. Sit down.” The next moment there was a gunshot and he said he had been hit. I crawled five meteres towards Flora Fountain and asked the cops to take him to a hospital. Nobody was ready. Eventually two cops and one man in plain clothes came with me and took him away to the hospital. Had the cop not pushed me down, I might have been the one to take that shot. — coutersy
